Mobile Ramps For Container Loading

Apr 27, 2025

How the slope of a mobile boarding ramp is controlled:
Hydraulics or Electric Actuators:Most modern mobile ramps (like the ones for planes) use hydraulic cylinders or electric linear actuators to adjust the height of the main ramp.
Manual Systems:Some simpler ramps have manual cranks or screw jacks.
The height adjustment automatically changes the slope- as you raise or lower the end of the ramp (to match an aircraft door or terminal), the slope gets steeper or shallower.
Some designs also have telescoping sections that extend the ramp horizontally, allowing better slope control without needing huge vertical movements.
How the small slope at the bottom connects to the large slope:
This small section at the bottom is often called a transition plate or flap.
The purpose of this flap is to smooth the change between the ground and the main ramp, preventing a sharp bump.
It is usually:
Hinged to the bottom of the main ramp.
Spring-loaded or gravity-assisted, so it always rests nicely on the ground.
Sometimes it's adjustable, slightly tilting up or down depending on the surface.
