Instructional Guide for Mounted Boom Lifts
1. Introduction
A Mounted Boom Lift (also known as a truck-mounted or vehicle-mounted aerial work platform) is a versatile piece of access equipment used to lift workers and tools to elevated areas for tasks like maintenance, construction, tree trimming, lighting installation, or signage. Mounted on a truck or van chassis, these lifts provide mobility and height without the need for trailers or towing.
2. Key Components
Boom Arm:Telescopic or articulating arm that extends vertically and horizontally.
Work Platform (Basket):A guarded area for the operator to stand in and control the boom.
Outriggers/Stabilizers:Extendable legs that ensure stability during operation.
Control Panels:Located both on the platform and base for safe operation.
Power Source:Typically powered by the truck's engine (PTO system) or battery-electric system in hybrid models.
3. Pre-Operation Checklist
Before using a mounted boom lift:
Inspect the lift and vehicle:Check tires, lights, controls, hydraulics, hoses, and the boom for damage or wear.
Ensure operator certification:Only trained and authorized personnel should operate the lift.
Check ground conditions:Ensure the surface is stable and not sloped excessively.
Deploy outriggers:Fully extend and secure outriggers to stabilize the vehicle.
Test emergency controls:Ensure lowering systems and alarms are functioning properly.
Wear PPE:Use a safety harness with a lanyard attached to a designated anchor point.
