The size of the countertop (or platform tray) on an Electric Order Picker is influenced by several key factors, depending on the model, application, and warehouse environment. Here's a breakdown of the main factors:
Load Capacity Requirements
Heavier or bulkier items need a larger and sturdier countertop to safely support the load.
The platform must distribute the weight evenly and prevent tipping or overloading.
Product Dimensions
The countertop size is often designed to match the typical size of the goods being picked, such as:
Boxes
Cartons
Totes or bins
Retail packages
Warehouse Aisle Width
Narrow-aisle (VNA) warehouses limit the allowable width of the order picker and its countertop.
The tray must fit within the overall width constraints of the picker and avoid contact with racking.
Operator Reach and Ergonomics
Designed for easy access without forcing the operator to overreach.
Countertops may be limited in depth to ensure all items are reachable from a safe standing position.
Order Picking Method
Single-item picking may require a smaller countertop.
Batch picking or multi-order operations may need a larger tray or multiple levels for sorting.
Customization & Accessories
Some models allow for adjustable, foldable, or modular countertops to suit different workflows.
Accessories like dividers, baskets, or shelves may also affect the usable size.
Safety & Stability
Overly large countertops can:
Obstruct the operator's view
Increase risk of collision
Shift the center of gravity, reducing stability
Manufacturers therefore balance size with safe handling and transport.
