Wheelchair lifts (including home wheelchair lifts, vertical platform lifts, and inclined platform lifts) are elevators designed for users with mobility impairments. Some companies, in order to save costs, do not include anti-pinch safety features, which poses a significant safety risk to users.
If your wheelchair lift doesn't have an anti-pinch function, how can you add one?
Adding an anti-pinch function to a wheelchair lift requires modifications to both the mechanical structure and electrical connections. This requires the person performing the modification to have some electrical and structural knowledge or to work under the guidance of a professional.
Four limit switches and a short-distance lifting baffle need to be added to the bottom of the wheelchair lift platform. The limit switches should be installed between the bottom of the lifting platform and the baffle. The distance between the limit switches and the baffle should be adjusted so that when an obstacle is encountered, the baffle rises, the limit switches open, and the lifting platform immediately stops. If the control box does not have a pre-reserved interface for the anti-pinch function, then the control box needs to be modified. The modifier can connect the control terminals of the AC contactor controlling the downward movement in series with these four limit switches. Because these four limit switches are normally closed, they will not affect the operation of the AC contactor. However, if there is an obstacle under the platform that touches the baffle, the baffle will trigger the limit switches, causing the AC contactor to open. At this point, the wheelchair lift platform will stop descending, thus completing the anti-pinch function design.
