What's the appropriate platform thickness for a fixed scissor lift?

Oct 28, 2025

The platform thickness of a fixed scissor lift consists of two components:
1. The thickness of the metal plate on the scissor lift platform
2. The total thickness of the stationary platform (including the thickness of the metal plate, the supporting rectangular tube, and the thickness of the anti-pinch aluminum alloy bracket).
The metal plate thickness of a scissor lift platform is generally 3-10mm, depending on the total load capacity of the lift. For fixed scissor lifts with a load capacity of up to 500kg, the platform plate thickness is 3mm; for fixed scissor lifts with a load capacity of 1000-2000kg, the platform plate thickness is 4mm; and for fixed scissor lifts with a load capacity of 4000kg, the platform plate thickness is 5mm. For fixed scissor lifts with a load capacity of over 4000kg, thicker metal plates are used, but generally no thicker than 10mm. Many people may wonder, isn't a thicker metal plate stronger? In theory, a thicker metal plate will make the platform of a fixed scissor lift stronger, but it doesn't necessarily increase the service life of the scissor lift. The thickness of a fixed scissor lift's frame is determined by the load capacity. For example, if a scissor lift with a standard load capacity of 500kg uses a 10mm thick steel plate, the platform's deadweight reaches 300kg, reducing the rated load to only 200kg. If a 500kg load is added, the platform will be permanently overloaded. While a thicker plate won't damage the platform, it could cause deformation of the supporting scissors, oil leaks in the cylinder, and bursting of the oil pipes. Another factor is that the total thickness of a fixed scissor lift's platform is comprised of three components: the plate thickness, the supporting rectangular tube thickness, and the thickness of the anti-pinch aluminum alloy strips. While we've already introduced the plate thickness, the supporting rectangular tube thickness is the core of the platform's load capacity. Only with a properly distributed rectangular tube can the platform's load be evenly distributed and prevent deformation. The anti-pinch aluminum alloy strips are optional and can be added or omitted. If necessary, the total thickness of the tabletop needs to be increased by 5cm. If space is available, add anti-pinch protection as much as possible to ensure that obstacles below are not damaged when using a fixed scissor lift. Therefore, choosing the appropriate thickness of iron plate according to the load is the smartest choice.
