How Does The Order Picker Machine Ensure User Safety?

Nov 13, 2025

Picking machines (also known as picking forklifts or inventory picking vehicles) incorporate a range of safety features and design elements to ensure operator safety when working at heights and handling goods. The following are measures taken to ensure user safety:
1. Operator Presence Detection System
The machine will only operate if the operator is correctly positioned on the platform.
Sensors detect whether the operator is on the platform; if the operator leaves the platform, the travel and lifting functions will automatically stop.
2. Guardrails and Safety Doors
Fixed guardrails and automatically closing safety doors surround the operator platform to prevent falls.
Some models are equipped with an interlocking system that prevents the platform from moving only when the safety doors are fully closed.
3. Emergency Stop Button
Large, easy-to-operate emergency stop buttons are installed on both the operator platform and the ground control panel.
In an emergency, pressing the emergency stop button will immediately cut off power to all functions.
4. Speed and Height Control
The travel speed automatically decreases as the platform height increases, ensuring better stability and maneuverability.
Some machines are equipped with an automatic braking function that can be activated by releasing the control handle. 5. Stability and Overload Protection
Built-in tilt and load sensors detect unsafe conditions (e.g., uneven ground, overload).
If an unsafe tilt or weight is detected, the lift will stop and sound an alarm.
6. Fall Protection Anchors
Operators must wear fall protection harnesses and attach them to designated anchor points on the platform.
This prevents operators from falling in the event of sudden movement or loss of balance.
7. Alarms and Indicator Lights
Audio alarms and flashing lights alert nearby workers when the picking machine moves or lifts.
Some units are equipped with proximity sensors to detect nearby obstacles.
8. Controlled Descent and Power Failure Safety
In the event of a power failure, an emergency descent valve allows the platform to be safely lowered manually.
