The controller manages the traction motor, lifting motor, steering, etc.-it is essentially the "brain" of the machine. There are many brands and types of controllers, and below we introduce some of the most commonly used controller brands for pallet stackers:
1. Curtis Instruments
Curtis is one of the most commonly used controller brands in pallet stackers, pallet trucks, and light industrial vehicles. The most commonly used models on the market are the Curtis 1232E and 1226BL. They are used for DC/AC traction and lifting motor control. Its advantage is that the controller can be programmed for specific vehicle characteristics (speed, torque limits, throttle response), making it convenient for factories to perform secondary development. It is widely used in small and medium-sized electric stackers, walkie stackers, and pallet truck systems produced by various electric forklift equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Curtis products are robust and durable, but due to the US-China trade friction, the supply is unstable, and the price fluctuates greatly, so many Chinese factories have begun to choose other brands as alternatives.
2. Sevcon
Sevcon is another well-known brand in the field of industrial electric vehicle control, especially in drive systems. Sevcon controllers are known for their high-quality AC/DC motor control electronics and adaptability to various battery systems, and are often used for traction control and regenerative braking in electric pallet stackers. It is also frequently used in high-performance or heavy-duty mobile equipment such as forklift platforms.
3. ZAPI / Remanufactured Controllers
ZAPI controllers are electronic devices used to manage driving and steering, usually used in conjunction with proportional lifting and steering systems for large or ride-on/walkie electric stackers. These controllers are common in European OEMs and the aftermarket. The biggest advantage of the ZAPI system is its support for advanced features such as CAN bus communication between drive, lift, and safety modules.
In addition to Curtis, Sevcon, and ZAPI, many manufacturers also use their own proprietary controllers designed specifically for their vehicle platforms (especially some large stacker brands). Currently, the quality of controllers produced in China is very good, but the brand recognition is not high. Now, many large Chinese stacker manufacturers (such as Hangcha, Heli, etc.) have switched to controllers produced in China.
