A cargo lift uses a transformer primarily to manage and safely distribute electrical power by converting high voltage to low voltage, or vice versa, depending on the system design. Here's how and why:
Why it uses a transformer:
1.Safety: Electrical power from the main supply (grid) often comes at a high voltage to reduce transmission losses. This high voltage is too dangerous for direct use in lift motors or control systems.
2.Compatibility: The lift's motor and control circuits are designed to run at specific lower voltages, like 230V or 110V for controls, or 400V for motors.
3.Efficiency: Transformers allow the use of high-voltage power transmission (which is more efficient over distances) and then step it down to safe, usable levels for the lift equipment.
How it works in a cargo lift:
The transformer steps down incoming high voltage (e.g.415V) to a lower, usable voltage (e.g.24V for control circuits, 400V for motors).
This lower voltage is then fed to:
The motor drive system that lifts or lowers the cargo.
The control panel (buttons, sensors, safety circuits) which operates at much lower voltages for safety and reliability.
In short, the transformer ensures that the lift can use high-voltage supply power safely and effectively by converting it to the required lower voltage levels for operation and control.
