A wheelchair lift generally cannot be equipped with both an automatic ramp and an automatic door on the same door opening side due to the following mechanical, spatial, and safety constraints:
1.Mechanical Interference
Ramp and door mechanisms would conflict:
The automatic ramp usually deploys by unfolding outward or downward from the lift platform edge, while the automatic door swings open or slides, occupying the same physical space.
This results in mechanical collision or blockage during operation.
2.Space Constraints
The door opening side must accommodate clear movement space for either a ramp or a door.
If both are present, they can overlap or obstruct each other, especially in compact lift designs (like in vans or narrow shaft installations).
3.Control Logic and Timing Conflicts
Synchronizing both systems (ramp deployment and door opening) becomes complex.
If not perfectly timed, one may activate before the other is ready, leading to malfunctions or damage.
4.Safety Concerns
During ramp deployment, the area must be clear of obstacles-an automatic door could pose a tripping hazard or block the path.
A malfunctioning ramp or door could trap the user or prevent emergency exit.
Typical Solutions Instead:
Automatic door only, with a level boarding platform (no ramp needed).
Manual or semi-automatic ramp, with an open entrance (no door).
Automatic door and ramp on opposite sides, if possible.
