Why does a stationary scissor lift base have four support columns?

Oct 16, 2025

The support columns of a stationary scissor lift have the following main functions:
1. When the scissor lift platform is lowered to the designated position, without the support columns, the hydraulic system will remain in operation, resulting in high internal pressure. This may not cause a problem in the short term, but over time, the check valve in the pump station will leak fluid in the reverse direction. Even if the stationary scissor lift platform is raised to its highest position, it will slowly descend without pressing the lower button. In this case, the check valve must be replaced before the stationary scissor lift platform can be used again.
2. Stationary scissor lifts have a minimum lifting angle. Without the four support columns, when the scissor lift platform is at its lowest point, the hydraulic cylinder requires a high pressure to generate vertical force due to the small lifting angle. This can cause a significant jerking sensation during use and can easily damage the cylinder seal.
3. They also provide a protective function. Because when the scissor lift platform descends, due to inertia, the platform will rush down a distance when it stops. The weight of the objects transported each time is inconsistent, and the distance moved is also different, which may cause safety accidents and seriously affect its use. However, due to the presence of four support columns, the platform cannot descend when it encounters a support column and will always stop in a fixed position.
